The hours for school are 8:55 AM to 3:20 PM. All students are to enter the school through the main entrance at the front of the building. STUDENTS ARE NOT TO ARRIVE AT SCHOOL PRIOR TO 8:35 AM SINCE SUPERVISION IS NOT PROVIDED BEFORE THAT TIME. Should you require supervision prior to 8:35 AM or after 3:20 p.m., please enroll your child in the district's Extended Day Program.
The Wayne Township Public Schools sponsors the Extended Day Program (7:15 - 8:35 AM and 3:20 - 6:00 PM). For further information, please visit the district website for information or contact Ms. Shari Plocker at 973-968-7427. Also, The Boys and Girls Club of Wayne sponsors a half-day program for Kindergarten children, including transportation to and/or from school as well as an after-school program for students K-5. They can be reached at 973-956-0033. PLEASE BE SURE TO USE ONE OF THESE OPTIONS IF YOU NEED TO HAVE YOUR CHILD ARRIVE PRIOR TO 8:35 AM OR REMAIN BEYOND 3:20 PM.
YOU ARE ENCOURAGED TO MAKE ALL DOCTOR AND DENTAL APPOINTMENTS AFTER SCHOOL HOURS TO ENSURE THAT YOUR CHILD RECEIVES A FULL EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM. ON THOSE OCCASIONS WHEN EARLY DISMISSAL IS AN ABSOLUTE NECESSITY, A NOTE TO THE CLASSROOM TEACHER MUST BE PROVIDED INCLUDING THE REASON AND TIME YOU WILL BE PICKING UP YOUR CHILD. In the event of an emergency, please try to call the school before arriving to request your child's early dismissal. Please note that your child must be in school for 4 instructional hours to receive credit for that school day.
The Transportation Department can be reached at 973-633-3144 or 973-633-3120.
Students eligible for bus transportation are expected to use the bus unless there is written notification from a parent/guardian indicating a change. The note should be sent to your child's teacher and include the particular information regarding the change (person picking up the child). You may use our Note To School which is on this website.
Absence from school should be held to an absolute minimum. Excused absences are permitted for religious holidays, student illness, or a death in the immediate family. Please call 973-633-3160 before 8:55 AM to let the school know that your child will be absent. There may be times when parents choose to keep children out of school for other reasons, such as traveling and family vacations. WE DISCOURAGE THIS PRACTICE, ASKING THAT YOU PLAN YOUR VACATION DURING SCHEDULED SCHOOL VACATIONS. Students who are absent for 10 consecutive days or more due to vacation or travel will be dis-enrolled and will need to be re-enrolled by the parents upon their return. For all absences, students are held responsible for missed assignments. Teachers are expected to provide students with missed assignments and a suitable amount of time is provided for the students to make up the work. PLEASE DO NOT ASK FOR ASSIGNMENTS IN ADVANCE TO ALLOW CHILDREN TO COMPLETE THEIR WORK PRIOR TO OR WHILE ON VACATION. Tardy and absentee notices will be sent home to parents as necessary.
FIRST AND SECOND GRADES
1. FORGETTING HOMEWORK - If your child has forgotten an assignment at home and you wish to bring it to school, we ask that you report directly to the main office. Mrs .Quinn, our secretary, will then notify the teacher.
2. CHILD'S ABSENCE - If you wish that homework be sent home on the day your child is absent, PLEASE CALL 973-633-3160 AND LEAVE THE REQUEST WHEN REPORTING THE ABSENCE OR CALL THE OFFICE BY 11:00 AM. WE CANNOT HONOR REQUESTS FOR HOMEWORK MADE AFTER THAT TIME.
All visitors to the school, including parents and PTO volunteers, MUST USE THE FRONT ENTRANCE. For safety and security, all doors are locked during the school day. All visitors must REPORT TO THE MAIN OFFICE UPON ENTERING THE BUILDING, SIGN IN, AND OBTAIN A VISITOR'S PASS, REGARDLESS OF THE LENGTH OF YOUR STAY. UPON YOUR EXIT, PLEASE REPORT BACK TO THE OFFICE AND SIGN OUT. We appreciate your cooperation in helping to ensure a safe environment for your children.
We often communicate with parents by sending notices home with children. You are encouraged to establish a routine whereby notices and notes from school are removed from your child's bag/backpack daily. This practice will keep you informed about events, programs, classroom and school happenings. We also post information and school events on our website. See the Calendars & Schedules section at the top of the page.
The lunch and recess schedule is as follows:
Lunch may be purchased on a daily or weekly basis for $2.50 per day. Children may also bring lunch from home. If lunch is forgotten at home and you wish to bring it to school, please label it with your child's name, grade, and teacher and bring it to the office. Mrs. Quinn will make sure your child gets his/her lunch.
Yes, please send a note to your child's teacher or notify the office. Parents must sign the children out and back in at the office.
The lost and found is located in the main hallway. Each year, we have many articles of clothing and personal possessions that are not claimed by our students. Please label everything that your child owns, including clothing, backpacks, and lunch boxes so that we can return these items to you.
